why is the world so bizarre lately?

a 7.9 earthquake in china...i've never even heard of a 7.9 earthquake before
myanmar cyclone that killed 22,00 people...that's the same number that attended urbana
stabbing of a student across the street...i had come home maybe 15 min before the attack
shooting next to top dog...in the middle of the day in broad daylight
and today: the weather is FUNKY. freaking hot and windy...that's never happened before

every generation says they think the world is coming to an end, from WWII to Y2K. now i'm not saying i think Jesus is coming soon, but tsunamis, earthquakes, cyclones, hurricanes, stabbings, shootings...i guess this isn't anything new, but the howling of this muggy wind is eeeeeeeeerie.

Origins (written in 2008)

I started a blog when I was a freshman at Cal. I figured it was time to get a xanga to keep in touch with my home-ies (high school friends). I was trying to think of a name and started gazing around my dorm room. Dani (the source of many of my inspirations) had slapped a bumper sticker on the front of our door, and like any good social floormate, our door was propped open. "PEACEMONGER". But of course, that was taken by some hippie fisherman (I don't really know, there are no posts on peacemonger's xanga). So I made it oOpeacemongerOo because I was still a teenager that thought wOrDs LiKe tHiS were so cool. But xanga is not case sensitive and reverted it to oopeacemongeroo. That looked dumb, but peacemongeroo sounded cool. Then I became a Peace and Conflict Studies minor. Coincidence? Not sure. Then I switched to Blogger because xanaga ads were getting annoying, I am a Google Apps fanatic, and Blogger is better.

I admit, I'm not an avid public blogger. I have four blogs that I use, so this one ends up getting the highly edited updates of my life, funny stories, and "ooh shiny!" moments. But I hope you still enjoy it.
